Truffle Days in Livade

At weekends from October to early November

In autumn, inland Istria revolves around the white truffle. In Livade, in the Mirna valley below Motovun, a white truffle weighing 1.31 kilos was found in 1999, a world record. During the Truffle Days there are stalls with fresh truffles, wine and olive oil, and chefs cook truffle dishes.

Zagreb

Advent in Zagreb

From late November to early January

One of Europe's best-known Christmas markets, voted the best by European Best Destinations three years in a row, from 2016 to 2018. The whole city centre joins in, with stalls and lights on Ban Jelačić Square, an ice rink in front of the Art Pavilion and mulled wine and fritule in Zrinjevac park. Come on a weekday evening, when it is less crowded.

Dates and programmes can change from year to year. Check the official website shortly before you travel.

Good to know

  • Around 11 November (St Martin's Day, Martinje) many places celebrate the young wine.
  • Olives are harvested in October and November. At olive oil producers in Istria and Dalmatia you can taste the fresh oil.
