Za Križen procession

On the night of Maundy Thursday into Good Friday, from 10 pm

Next: Thursday, 25 March 2027

A centuries-old procession that sets off from six villages at the same time: Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj and Vrboska. Each group follows a cross bearer, often barefoot, and walks about 25 kilometres past the other villages in eight hours. The groups never meet along the way.

Dates and programmes can change from year to year. Check the official website shortly before you travel.

Good to know

  • A good month for the coastal cities, without the crowds.
  • On the islands many hotels and restaurants do not reopen until April or May.
